We had a 'smashing' good time on St. Patrick's day! After an in-school professional development afternoon with our little 1:1 iPad cohort I was completely enamored with Aurasma. I could not wait to try it out and knew St. Patrick's day would be the perfect trial run. After saving an image of a leprechaun on my iPad, I gave him a voice using the yakit kids app. I then set these videos as an overlay on different clovers I hid around the school. We had so much fun going on a scavenger hunt for the next clue. App smashing with Aurasma helped bring St. Patrick's day to life!
Before you can run, you walk. Before you can write, you must be able to tell the story you want to share. I spend a lot time with my students practicing telling a story or saying the facts that they are going to write down before even showing them a paper. We tell a partner, we share in the teacher's chair, and we tell our tables. After really getting an idea solid in their minds, then the students are ready to write. An app we have been using to share stories, before getting the writing stage, is Draw and Tell. It is very kid friendly and has some great creative options. We used this app to tell our favorite characters from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. We are working on stating our opinion and giving a reason why.
